NFL Ratings, Week 2: Chiefs-Bengals delivers great performance for CBS

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals played an exciting game until the end on Sunday and the spectators were captivated, according to CBS.

The network’s “National Game,” which included the Chiefs-Bengals game in most of the country, averaged 27.9 million viewers, an 8 percent increase from the same period last year. The National Game was the most-watched broadcast by a single network since the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory. Most of the country watched the Chiefs-Bengals game, while much of the Mountain Time Zone and the Pittsburgh area watched the Broncos-Steelers game.

According to the network, this marks the best start to a season for CBS since 1998, with an average of 19.9 million viewers. (Note: The metrics have changed in recent years to include more viewers away from home, so comparisons between recent years and years before will tend to favor the current numbers.)

Meanwhile, Amazon’s debut of “Thursday Night Football” on Prime Video averaged 14.96 million viewers, making it the third most-watched NFL game on Prime. The game, a blowout win for the Bills over the Dolphins, trailed last year’s Vikings-Eagles game (15.06 million) in the same week and the Seahawks-Cowboys game in Week 13, which averaged 15.26 million viewers.

Additional ratings for Fox, NBC and Monday Night Football will follow later this week.
