Connie Chung shared the exciting news that her son is engaged to Maury Povich!
During her appearance on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna on September 16, the journalist announced that her son Matthew, whom she adopted with husband Maury Povich, is getting married.
Chung told co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager that her son proposed to his girlfriend Hunter after nine and a half years of dating.
“He’s just like mom and dad,” Chung said of her son. “Maury and I were together for seven years before we were on the same wavelength.”
Chung, who will celebrate her 40th wedding anniversary with the former television host in December, recalled when she first learned about the adoption, which happened around the same time she was fired from her job at CBS Evening News in 1995.
Chung also addressed the topic of motherhood, saying, “I don’t see myself as a future mother.”
“For me, the birth of our son and having him born on my arm was all about him. It’s not just about being a mother,” she said.
Chung continued, “And that’s the most wonderful thing, because I was focused on myself and my job and everything. I was so self-absorbed. And then, all of a sudden, I’m putting all my love into this beautiful baby.”
Matthew Povich has two stepsisters from Maury Povich’s first marriage. Before marrying Chung in 1984, Maury Povich was married to Phyllis Minkoff, with whom he has daughters Susan and Amy, according to People.
