Ratings for the premiere of the 33rd season of “Dancing With The Stars” are rising

ABC scored a ratings win on Tuesday with the premiere of the 33rd season of Dancing with the stars.

According to Nielsen Live + Same-Day data, last night’s episode drew 4.97 million viewers for the first time, up 4% from last fall’s Season 32 premiere, which drew 4.78 million viewers.

In the 18-49 demo, the Season 33 premiere rose 14% year over year to a 0.73 rating. Nielsen data shows that’s 19% above the Season 32 ratings average for that demo.

Tuesday’s episode was the best Dancing with the stars has been broadcast in the 18-49 age group since Taylor Swift Night last November, just weeks before the finale.

As always, Dancing with the stars began with the contestants introducing themselves with their opening numbers. Each of them was tasked with choosing their “anthem,” or a song that they felt represented them, and the professional was then supposed to choreograph their assigned dance to it.

This season’s cast includes Olympic rugby player Ilona Maher, Bachelor Nation’s Joey Graziadei and Jenn Tran, NBA champion Dwight Howard, Anna Delvey and Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik.
