The Carolina Panthers will sign Cam Newton to replace Bryce Young

Former Carolina Panthers quarterback and current podcast host Cam Newton could be an option for the Panthers’ current quarterback situation.

This is NOT A REPORT, but a PREDICTION!

With the Panthers recently benching second-year quarterback Bryce Young after a string of disappointing performances, the timing couldn’t be more exciting. Carolina is clearly looking for answers at the quarterback position, and bringing back Newton could be a worthwhile gamble.

Bryce Young on the bench: The search for victory

The decision to bench Bryce Young suggests that Carolina’s coaching staff and/or owner David Tepper have serious doubts about the 0-2 start. After being selected first in the 2023 NFL Draft, expectations for Young were enormous. But the Panthers’ offense struggled to find its rhythm, and Young’s development was rocky. Turnovers, inconsistent accuracy, and an inability to sustain offense became recurring problems.

While Young’s future may still be bright without Carolina, the Panthers desperately need a solution. They need a quarterback who can manage the game, bring energy to the locker room and rejuvenate the team during this turbulent time. At this point, the possible return of Cam Newton comes into discussion.

Cam Newton and the Panthers: Legendary connection

Newton’s story with the Panthers is legendary. Drafted first overall by Carolina in 2011, Newton was the franchise’s flagship player for nearly a decade, leading the team to multiple playoff appearances, most notably during the 2015 season when he was named MVP and led the Panthers to a 15-1 record and a Super Bowl appearance. Known for his ability as a dual-threat player, Newton redefined what a quarterback can be by bringing a unique blend of size, speed and power to the position.

His first stint with the Panthers ended after the 2019 season, as injuries and the introduction of a new coaching regime led to his dismissal. He returned briefly in 2021and although he has only played 5 games, his 1 return to Carolina must give hope for a possible further

However, Newton’s connection to the franchise and his leadership qualities resonate with fans and players alike. His knowledge of the organization and ability to quickly adapt to Carolina’s offensive system could make him a good fit.

Why Cam could now be the answer

If signed, Cam Newton could immediately breathe life into the Panthers’ quarterback unit. Although he’s no longer the player he was during his MVP season, Newton has always been a leader who can shake up a locker room and provide a physical presence on the field. Whether he’s used as a starter or a backup, his experience and ability to run the football could add diversity to an offense that seemed stagnant.

One of the main reasons Newton could be successful at this moment is the current state of the Panthers’ offensive line and running game. Bryce Young has struggled to evade pressure, and Carolina’s running game is the only real path to relevance for Carolina in the 2024-2025 season. Newton’s ability to extend plays and break through defenders could help mitigate some of those issues. His size (6’5″, 240 pounds) and athleticism make him harder to sack and give him the ability to open running lanes with read-option plays.

Additionally, Newton’s familiarity with the Carolina fan base and media is another advantage. Once he steps back on the field at Bank of America Stadium, he will be greeted as a returning hero. In a season that has already brought plenty of disappointment, Newton’s presence alone could reignite a fan base hungry for excitement.

Backup or starter: Cam’s role

If the Panthers were to bring Newton on board, his role would depend on several factors. Given the team’s issues with Bryce Young, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Cam take the reins as starter, at least for a short time. Newton would have to show in practice that he still has enough left in the tank to be effective in today’s NFL, but if he performs well, he could become the bridge quarterback while the Panthers re-evaluate Young’s development.

Alternatively, Newton could serve as a mentor to Bryce Young, providing him with a wealth of knowledge and helping the young quarterback adapt to the challenges of the NFL. Young could benefit greatly from having an experienced player like Newton in the locker room who has experienced the ups and downs of a franchise quarterback’s career.

The biggest question is whether the offensive forces of Dave Canales and Cam Newton will mesh. Now that Andy Dalton is taking over, the question is why not give Cam another chance. The worst part is that it will help with ticket and jersey sales.
