George Clooney sends a message to former President Trump after he insulted the actor over the summer.

Clooney responded on Tuesday to Trump’s July Truth Social post calling on the actor to “retire from politics and return to television.”

“If he does it, I will,” Clooney joked on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” eliciting laughter and cheers from the audience.

Clooney wrote an editorial for the New York Times in July calling on President Biden to drop out of the White House race after a disastrous debate performance. Clooney, a strong Democratic supporter, had hosted fundraisers for Biden’s campaign prior to the editorial.

Clooney also spoke to Kimmel about the editorial on Tuesday night and praised Biden for his decision.

“The bottom line is that it’s very difficult to give up power, and President Biden has done something truly extraordinary,” he said.

Kimmel also asked whether Clooney had considered whether Trump would succeed him if he were elected to the White House in November.

“Yes, I did, but it’s just a comfort to me that he goes after you first. I know the theory that you don’t have to be faster than the bear, you just have to be faster than the one kid,” Clooney joked. “You are that one kid.”

Kimmel later asked if Clooney would write another editorial, this time targeting Trump.

“Have you thought about writing an editorial in the Times and calling on him to resign because it worked once? Why not try it again?” Kimmel joked.

Just days after Clooney wrote the New York Times editorial, Biden announced on July 21 that he was dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing Harris. Since then, Harris has narrowed the gap on Harris in many national and swing-state polls and has attempted to appeal to voters.
