Fire at Peters Creek apartment complex in Roanoke County leaves two seriously injured and 12 homeless

ROANOKE, Virginia. UPDATE

An apartment fire in Roanoke County that broke out Tuesday evening and injured two residents and a firefighter flared up again Wednesday morning but has since been extinguished.

As a reminder, this happened at the Peters Creek Apartment Complex in the Hollins neighborhood of Roanoke County, directly behind Burlington Elementary School.

The fire left 12 units homeless and caused significant damage.

“We used our aerial ladder and threw a lot of water on it, so there’s going to be water damage in almost every apartment there,” said Brian Clingenpeel, community outreach coordinator for Roanoke County Fire and Rescue. “So not every apartment will have fire damage, but every apartment will have some water damage.”

The American Red Cross is helping the displaced people.

UPDATE

According to Roanoke County Fire and Emergency Services, 12 residential units were destroyed and two people were hospitalized with serious injuries Tuesday after a fire broke out at the Peters Creek apartment complex.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene around 9:30 p.m. and upon arrival found thick black smoke rising from the attic area of ​​the three-story apartment building on South Barrens Road in the Hollins neighborhood of Roanoke County.

Two people were rescued from the fire and taken to a nearby hospital. In addition, a firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The fire was extinguished within about an hour.

The displaced people are being helped by the American Red Cross.

According to the fire department, the fire spread across the roof at the rear of the house. Emergency services report severe fire and water damage to the building.

What the cause of the fire might be is currently unclear.
