Kane scores four goals and breaks Rooney’s record for most Champions League goals by an English player

MUNICH (AP) — Harry Kane has beaten Wayne Rooney’s record for most Champions League Goals by an English player as the Bayern Munich striker scored four against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.

Kane With goals in the 19th, 53rd, 73rd and 78th minutes – three of the four goals were penalties – he took his tally in the competition to 33, surpassing Rooney’s record of 30.

Kane opened the scoring with a penalty and gave Bavaria the lead over the Croatian club after his teammate Aleksandar Pavlovic was fouled by Ronaël Pierre-Gabriel.

Kane equalled Rooney’s record of 30 goals, scoring his 31st goal in the 57th minute after goalkeeper Ivan Nevistic had parried Joshua Kimmich’s shot.

Kane scored two more penalties to extend his record.

Kane has scored twelve goals in the Champions League since joining Bayern Munich a year ago, before that he scored 21 goals for Tottenham.

Kane has now scored 53 goals in 50 games in all competitions since joining Bayern.

Kane has scored nine goals in his last three games for club and country, including two for England against Finland in his 100th international match and a Hat trick on Saturday for Bayern against Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga.

Another record was broken when Thomas Müller came off the bench to play his 152nd Champions League game for Bayern, the most for a player from a single club, equalling former Barcelona player Xavi Hernandez.
