Real Madrid – Stuttgart, Manchester United – Barnsley: Champions League and Carabao Cup – live | Champions League
Important events
GOAL! Manchester United – Barnsley 3-0 (Garnacho 45+2)
A joyous first half for Erik ten Hag’s team is rounded off by a goal for Alejandro Garnacho, the ball bouncing right in front of him after Marcus Rashford was stripped of the ball in the box.
Goals from other sources: Sheffield Wednesday took a 1-0 lead in their Carabao Cup match against Blackpool through Di’Shon Bernard, while Sporting Lisbon took a lead against Lille in the Champions League through Viktor Gyokeres. Oh, and England’s Angel Gomes was sent off for Lille after picking up two yellow cards.
GOALS! Bayern Munich – Dinamo Zagreb 3:0 (33. Guerreiro, 38. Olise)
Bayern caused chaos, the three points were already secured. First it was Raphaël Guerreiro who scored with a half-volley after a chest pass from Jamal Musiala. Then Michael Olise joined in and headed in from a short corner for his second goal in as many games.
GOAL! Manchester United 2-0 Barnsley (Antony, penalty, 35′)
Antony, the forgotten man, wins a penalty after going down following a tackle by the goalkeeper. He is also the man who converts it and scores the goal despite the goalkeeper drifting to the right.
GOAL! Brentford – Leyton Orient 3-1 (45th Norgaard)
And after this early hint of danger, the fun continues for Brentford. Captain Christian Norgaard increases the lead to 3-0.
GOAL! Preston 1-0 Fulham (36. Ledson)
Surprise Watch: Ryan Ledson places a perfect low shot from the edge of the box to give Preston the lead against Fulham.
GOAL! Bayern Munich – Dinamo Zagreb 1:0 (Kane, penalty, 20′)
Harry Kane takes the penalty for Bayern and gives the hosts an early lead after Aleksandar Pavlovic is brought down in the penalty area.
GOAL! Everton 1-1 Southampton (32. Harwood-Bellis)
Taylor Harwood-Bellis puts the Saints back on track with a header from a free kick at Goodison Park.
GOAL! Manchester United 1-0 Barnsley (17. Rashford)
It is a wonderful team And Solo goal from Manchester United. They play through from the back to Alejandro Garnacho who finds Marcus Rashford on the right with a diagonal ball. Rashford’s first touch is perfect before he drifts gracefully into the box and calmly shoots home.
GOAL! Brentford – Leyton Orient 2-1 (Damsgaard 27)
Leyton Orient’s joy is short-lived, however, as their lead is wiped out when Mikkel Damsgaard heads in a cross from Carvalho.
GOAL! Everton 1-0 Southampton (Doucouré 20)
After a header volley following a corner, it is Abdoulaye Doucouré who has the last touch of the ball and puts Everton in the lead in this pure Premier League duel.
GOAL! QPR 0-1 Crystal Palace (Nketiah 16)
Eddie Nketiah scored his first goal for Crystal Palace, slotting the ball into the net after it was rolled into his path in the penalty area by Eberechi Eze’s clever free-kick.
GOAL! Brentford – Leyton Orient 1-1 (18. Carvalho)
Ignore my previous post: Brentford are back in business, baby. Fábio Carvalho equalises with a top finish, an overhead kick on the six-yard line after the goalkeeper had thrown the ball into the air following a save.
GOAL! Brentford 0-1 Leyton Orient (Cooper 12)
Surprise alert! Brandon Cooper puts the League One side ahead against the Premier League team by netting from close range at the far post.
“Good evening, Taha, interesting to see how Real survives a long season without the metronome Toni Kroos.,“ writes John McEnerney.
“Modric is not enough and the young midfielders they have do not have the discipline or the ability to sit deep and dictate the game. Frankly, there are not many who can do that. Real will let you score, but the firepower might just be enough. Enjoy the games.”
I wonder what our man Toni is up to. My Friday fivesome in South London isn’t full this week. If you’re in the area, Toni, drop me a line.
Here are the Carabao Cup matches kicking off at 19:45 BST:

What a night for the Villans.

Rob Smyth looks at a remake of this 2005 classic:
Niall McVeigh writes about the return of the Big(ger) Cup:

We are already on the move in Europe – there are a lot this year – Juventus host PSV and Aston Villa play the oddly named Young Boys. Feel free to contact me with your thoughts and questions and please let me know if you have had the Carabao Energy Drink. Book recommendations are always welcome.
