Sean “Diddy” Combs has been faced with months of controversy.
What you should know:
Raids in March: Authorities searched Combs’ homes in Miami and Los Angeles because he is the target of a federal investigation by HSI, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s lead investigative agency, according to a senior federal law enforcement official briefed on the case.
The investigation is based on many of the same allegations of sexual assault that were made in the civil lawsuits, according to a second law enforcement source familiar with the searches.
HSI is responsible for investigating transnational crimes and threats, including human trafficking, terrorism, drug smuggling and other organized crime activities.
The raids came weeks after Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones filed a lawsuit against Combs.
Lawsuit in November: Combs reached a settlement with his ex-girlfriend, singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who claimed that Combs raped her and subjected her to repeated physical and other abuse over a period of years.
Civil lawsuits: Since November, 10 lawsuits have been filed against Combs, nine of which directly accuse him of sexual assault. As CNN previously reported, several of these accusers met with federal investigators for questioning as part of the extensive investigation.
