The Pittsburgh Steelers are 1-0 and looking for their second straight win to start the season. Despite holding a three-point lead in Week 1, Mike Tomlin’s team escaped Atlanta with a win over the Falcons thanks in large part to a spectacular performance from kicker Chris Boswell and Pittsburgh’s defense.

In Week 2, Tomlin couldn’t ask for a better opponent. His red-hot defense will face rookie quarterback Bo Nix and the Broncos. However, this will be Pittsburgh’s second straight road game, and playing in the Mile High City this early in the season isn’t easy.

Sean Payton could jumpstart his offense in Week 2 after the team endured a rough start to the season. Courtland Sutton, the Broncos’ top receiver, is full of energy and determined to make an impact in Week 2.

But that won’t happen if Joey Porter Jr. has something to say.

In his rookie season in 2023, Porter Jr. was better than advertised. The talented cornerback used his long arms and physicality to redirect top-notch wide receivers with ease. Unfortunately, his grabbing resulted in 12 penalties last year (four of which were declined).

In his Week 1 opening game against the Falcons, Porter showed more potential than ever. The Steelers cornerback, who was supposed to shadow Atlanta’s top WR Drake London, made the Falcons’ 2022 No. 8 overall draft pick into a complete nonentity. London caught just one pass for seven yards the entire game when Porter faced him.

Similarly, Porter could sideline Courtland Sutton in Week 2.

This is the perfect match for the Steelers cornerback. A receiver with a large frame who is just an average athlete at the position by NFL standards and doesn’t have much to offer after the catch. Porter has the size to keep up with the 6’3″ Sutton, and his arm length and wingspan surpass Denver’s best receivers.

Sutton is a similar player to London in terms of the way he wins, and if Porter can shut down the Broncos’ top target in the passing game, he will force Bo Nix to look for low-profile options that have so far failed to find success in Denver.

Meanwhile, wide receivers Josh Reynolds and Devaughn Vale are battling injuries and missed practice time earlier this week, which could give cornerback Donte Jackson an easy win against the Broncos in Week 2.

The Steelers know you should never take a team lightly, but Pittsburgh is a match for Denver. If Joey Porter Jr. can take Courtland Sutton out of the game with some tough coverage, it will be a brilliant win for the Broncos this Sunday.
