MP Mark Green is reportedly accused of infidelity by his wife

The wife of Republican Representative Mark Green from Tennessee has accused him of having an affair, several media outlets reported.

Green, chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, had planned to retire early this year after taking office in 2019, but changed his mind weeks later. According to court documents, Green filed for divorce from his wife, Camilla Green, in late August.

The Nashville Banner first reported Camilla’s allegations, which appeared in a message to members of Congress, saying he was having an affair with a 32-year-old woman he met after being bribed in Washington.

“He fell head over heels in love with her, so much so that he wanted to marry her and start a new family,” she wrote, according to Politico. “Satan rewrote our marriage in his head.”

Mark’s re-election campaign did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment, but told Banner and Politico: “This is a difficult time for my family and me, and we are currently going through divorce proceedings. As this is a very private matter, I ask for privacy… I will continue to serve this district with everything I have, just as I have for the past five and a half years.”

Wife of MP falsely claims lover as journalist and threatens to sue

In a group text message sent by Camilla on September 11, Mark’s lover was falsely identified as a reporter from Axios, leading to a legal threat from the news channel.

In a letter obtained by USA TODAY, Axios legal counsel told Camilla that she needed to text the group again to “set the record straight,” or the company could “take further action.”

Camilla did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for confirmation, but told Politico, “I want to set the record straight because I misidentified someone in this message. My husband never had a relationship with an Axios reporter and I regret saying that.”

Representative Mark Green wanted to retire, but was then pressured by Trump

Representative Mark Green, who also serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced in mid-February that he would not run for re-election.

“Our country – and our Congress – is so broken it is beyond repair,” he said in a statement. “I have realized that our fight is not here in Washington, it is in Washington.”

Weeks later, he reversed this decision.

“While it has been my deepest desire to leave Congress at the end of this year, since my announcement I have received countless calls from constituents, colleagues and President Trump urging me to reconsider,” Green said in a statement provided in February to The Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY Network.

In 2017, Green withdrew his candidacy for Secretary of the Army under the Trump administration after his past comments about gays, lesbians, Muslims and other groups faced increasing criticism.

In the upcoming election, Green is running against former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry, Democrat, in the 7th District, which includes Clarksville and part of Nashville.
