Why Bill Belichick posted an Instagram account for the Patriots during the Week 2 game

Bill Belichick was barely willing to mention the Patriots after their road win against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1.

That changed in Week 2, but the spotlight had nothing to do with Jerod Mayo’s group.

There was no shortage of pomp and pageantry at Gillette Stadium as New England took the field for its first home game on Sunday. Malcolm Butler opened the game as the “Keeper of the Lights” before kickoff and was joined by a number of his Super Bowl XLIX-winning teammates in celebration of the Patriots’ 10-year anniversary of 2014.

Due to his media commitments, Belichick was unable to attend the festivities in Foxboro, Massachusetts, but shared a message with the memorable team via Instagram.

“Congratulations to every player, coach and staff member of our incredible 2014 team,” the post said. “You did everything at a championship level – small things in everyday life that no one else saw but us, and big things, legendary things under pressure that the whole world saw. The playoffs were unforgettable – twice coming from 14 points behind against the Ravens – a total dominance by the Colts – and a stunning win in Arizona against the defending SB champs. I am forever grateful for the great team effort and to all the Patriots fans who supported with so much enthusiasm. We all shared a magical journey together.”

Maybe Belichick will be at Gillette Stadium in two years when New England celebrates the tenth anniversary of its legendary Super Bowl LI victory over the Atlanta Falcons. On the other hand, the future Hall of Famer could well have a new job as a head coach by then.
