Taylor Zakhar Perez wants more “Red, White & Royal Blue”: Emmys 2024

Taylor Zakhar Perez hopes for the triple Red, white and royal blue Fun.

The 32-year-old star of the LGBT romantic comedy spoke to diversity on the red carpet at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15. When asked if he thought there would be a sequel while filming, Perez said, “I guess I hoped so.”

A sequel to Red, white and royal bluewhich once again stars Perez and Nicholas Galitzine, is currently in the works, distributor Amazon MGM Studios announced on May 10. The Emmy presenter continued about Casey McQuiston’s 2019 original: “It was a great book and it kind of left you hanging after reading it.”

Perez then went even further in his hopes for the successful film: “I hope there are three of them,” said the Kissing Booth 3 said Star. “I think it could be a nice trilogy.”

Asked by diversityReporter, whether Red, white and royal blue could be a musical, he replied, laughing. “Hey, that would be fun! As long as the musical is funny. We need a very funny musical.”

Directed and co-written by Matthew López, Red, white and royal blue was a hit upon its release in July 2023. It starred Uma Thurman, Sarah Shahi, Stephen Fry, Clifton Collins Jr. and Rachel Hilson.

The film was nominated for Best Television Movie at this year’s Emmy Awards. (The winner of the category, announced last weekend, was Quiz Lady.)

Speaking to PEOPLE after the film’s release last August, López, 47, said, “Queer audiences don’t actually get the opportunity to participate in fairy tales themselves all that often… It’s interesting because it feels like queer audiences are one of the main consumers of these kinds of stories, and yet we haven’t had many of them ourselves.”

López and McQuiston, who already worked together on the first part, are writing a completely new script for the sequel.
