Lamorne Morris wins the 2024 Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Anthology or a Movie

Lamorne Morris, who seemed as surprised as everyone else to accept an Emmy on stage on Sunday, didn’t hesitate to rave about his fellow nominees in his hyper-adrenaline-fueled acceptance speech.

One of them received a greeting by name. “Robert Downey Jr., I have a poster of you in my house!” Fargo The actor gushed after winning Best Supporting Actor, “Please sign it, seriously.” As he spoke, the camera caught Downey in the audience, clenching his fist and smiling.

Morris, who was honored for his role as Deputy Witt Farr of North Dakota, outperformed the two favorites in the category: Downey (The sympathizer) and Jonathan Bailey (Fellow travelers).

Had Downey won, he would have been the first actor to win an Oscar, a Daytime Emmy and a Primetime Emmy in the same year. Instead, as befits a night full of surprises, Morris scored his first win on his first Emmy nomination.

Morris, who will also appear as Garrett Morris in the film this fall Saturday nightbegan his speech by thanking his mother, whose reaction to the moment was caught on ABC’s cameras.

After beginning with thanks to God, Morris added his thanks to God “for my wonderful mother who raised me.”

He also said wryly: “My beautiful daughter Lily. I love you. I told you I would – you always doubted me.” Laughing, he added: “I am your hero, I am your leader.”

Then he shouted out “FX,” “my wonderful cast,” and “his reps,” before reading the words no winner wants to see flashed on the teleprompter. “‘Get it over with – shut up!'” he said.
