Caitlin Clark sets a new career high with 35 points, overtaking Seimone Augustus in the ranking of the best points in a rookie season

Caitlin Clark keeps breaking records. The Indiana Fever rookie sensation reached her latest milestone on Sunday when she broke the WNBA single-season rookie points record in a 110-109 victory over the Dallas Wings.

Clark finished Sunday’s game with a career-high 35 points. She totaled 761 points, surpassing Seimone Augustus, who scored the most points in her rookie season. Augustus, now a Hall of Famer, set the record in 2006 when she scored 744 points in her rookie year for the Minnesota Lynx.

The game was exciting until the end, and the Wings came within two points with seconds to go. Fever center Aliyah Boston made two free throws with one second to go, denying Dallas the win. Although Dallas forward Satou Sabally scored a three-pointer with the final siren, it was not enough and Indiana won 110-109.

In addition to Clark’s career-high in points, she added three rebounds, eight assists and three steals. She also made six three-pointers, just one shy of her career-high.

Kelsey Mitchell was close behind Clark with 27 points for the Fever, while Sabally and Arike Ogunbowale also scored 27 points each for Dallas.

Clark has definitely left her mark in the record books this season, breaking both rookie records and WNBA records. The 22-year-old defenseman broke the rookie records for assists and three-pointers made in August before breaking the WNBA single-season assist record on Friday. She set the single-game assist record back in July with 19 assists – also against the Wings.

With the trio of Clark, Boston and Mitchell, the Indiana Fever ended an eight-year drought in the postseason and returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. With Sunday’s victory, the Fever took their 20th win of the season and now secured sixth place for the postseason.
