Keenan Allen is “more on the dubious side” of things

My morning started off on a positive note as rumors about Rome Odunze’s status continued to suggest that it was becoming increasingly likely that the Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver would play against the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football.

Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case with Keenan Allen:

During NFL On FOX pregame coverage, league insider Jay Glazer said Allen’s game-day availability is “somewhat questionable.” Even more troubling is Glazer’s expectation that Keenan Allen will not play tonight. Of course, Glazer believes Odunze will play — but only after the team sends him out to warm up and test his nagging knee injury.

What will the Bears do without Keenan Allen?

At the start of this week, I would have thought the opposite of what we expected would happen. At the start of the week, I would have thought it was more likely that Keenan Allen would play and Rome Odunze would sit out. But here we are on Sunday afternoon, and the prognosis is looking better for Rome to play than Keenan. Watching the NFL can be such a fickle thing.

So… what does it look like if Keenan can’t go? Well, we’ve started looking at what the Bears could do to fill the void if Rome Odunze were out, and I think we can apply the same logic even if we put Keenan Allen’s name in Rome Odunze’s place.

If Keenan cannot play, the Bears should rely heavily on DJ Moore and Cole Kmet. Moore missed some time last week with an injury but was off the injured list this week and appears to be back to full play. Kmet was healthy last week but played less than 50 percent of Chicago’s offensive plays. Bears offensive coordinator Shane Waldron offered an explanation and it seems the playmaker is trying to make up for some mistakes this week. Frankly, I don’t care how the Bears offense scores. By hook or by crook, just do it.
