Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa has no plans to end his career after his recent concussion

Tagovailoa’s injury occurred with the Dolphins trailing 31-10 in the third quarter when the quarterback ran for six yards on fourth down. Tagovailoa collided head-first with Bills safety Damar Hamlin, and the Dolphins quarterback remained on the ground while being examined on the field by team medical personnel. He was able to get up on his own and was ruled out of the game with a concussion.

Miami backup QB Skylar Thompson exited the game after Tagovailoa left. The Dolphins are expected to sign experienced Tim Boyle to the practice squad without having a timetable for Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa suffered a number of concussions throughout his NFL career.

In 2022, Tagovailoa missed five games, including one playoff game, due to concussions. In Week 4 of that season, the Dolphins quarterback was carried off the field on a stretcher against the Cincinnati Bengals and missed two games. In a Christmas Day game against the Green Bay Packers, Tagovailoa suffered a concussion and missed the rest of the season.

Over the course of five seasons, Tagovailoa has recorded 13,122 passing yards, 83 touchdowns and 40 interceptions in 55 games. The No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft has a 33-20 record as a starting QB.

Tagovailoa and the Dolphins agreed to a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension last offseason.
