Simone Inzaghi is expected to select a rotating selection of defenders and midfielders for Sunday night’s trip to Monza ahead of seven busy days of Champions League and Serie A games against Manchester City and rivals Milan.

Players such as Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu could be unavailable for action ahead of Wednesday’s trip to the Etihad, and several players are eager to replace them.

Italian goalscorer Davide Frattesi is expected to start in midfield, probably in the role normally occupied by Barella, while Kristjan Asllani could be deployed as a deep-lying playmaker in place of Calhanoglu.

Inter’s attack remains dangerous, with captain Lautaro Martinez expected to partner Serie A’s top scorer Marcus Thuram up front.

However, there could be some changes in Alessandro Nesta’s attacking line-up, as Dany Mota could replace Gianluca Caprari in Monza.
