A Russell Wilson “revenge game” will not be part of the NFL’s Week 2 matchups.
Justin Fields, not the more experienced Wilson, will lead his new team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, into their second game of the season against Wilson’s previous team, the Denver Broncos, on Sunday afternoon. It would have been Wilson’s first game against the Broncos since 2018, when he was with the Seattle Seahawks. His career record against the Broncos is 1-1 in the regular season.
The Steelers won 18-10 against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1. Fields started the game at quarterback while Wilson was out with a calf injury, and kicker Chris Boswell converted all six field goal attempts to score all the points for Pittsburgh.
Meanwhile, Denver began the season with a 1-0 loss at Seattle. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix made his regular season debut in that game and completed 26 of 42 passes for 138 yards and two interceptions.
