Packers lead 10-0 against Colts after the first quarter

The Colts won the opening coin toss and forfeited. Josh Jacobs did much of the work on the Packers’ first series, rushing for 49 yards on three carries. His 34-yard run came on first-and-20 to put Green Bay in Indianapolis territory.

Malik Willis, starting in place of Jordan Love, completed a pass in the flat zone to Jayden Reed, but he failed to gain ground on third and seventh attempts. The Packers settled for a 46-yard field goal by Brayden Narveson and took a 3-0 lead with 10 minutes and 30 seconds left.

Green Bay earned a three-and-out on its first defensive stand when Isaiah McDuffie caused an incomplete pass on a third-and-7 checkdown by Jonathan Taylor in the flat.

The Packers started the game with Reed lining up with Jacobs in the backfield, leading to a 22-yard run to open the next drive. Three consecutive runs by Jacobs gained 12 yards and brought the offense to the Colts’ 48-yard line.

Emanuel Wilson rushed four yards forward on third and two before receiver Bo Melton reversed and ran 16 yards to Indianapolis’ 20 yard line.

Jacobs nearly scored a 20-yard touchdown on the next play, but it was called back because of a holding penalty on left tackle Rasheed Walker. Willis gained 12 yards on a designed scramble to set up third-and-4 from the Colts’ 14-yard line.

On the next play, Willis threw the first touchdown pass of his career, hitting Dontayvion Wicks on the flat play. The second-year receiver extended the pass into the end zone and scored.

Narveson’s extra point was partially blocked but still flew through the goal posts and gave the Packers a 10-0 lead with 3:18 minutes left in the first quarter. The 82-yard, 11-play offensive run took 6:21 minutes.

Indianapolis started quickly and gained 30 yards in two plays, but Richardson airmailed a long ball to Alec Pierce, which Packers safety Xavier McKinney intercepted and returned 18 yards to the Green Bay Packers 31-yard line.

Green Bay reached 150 rushing yards in the first quarter thanks to a 15-yard run by Reed. Jacobs then moved the chains again with two 13-yard runs to the Indianapolis 41-yard line.
