Inappropriate? Or stunning? This mother of the bride dress is hotly debated on the internet

The mother of a bride is causing a stir on the Internet with her outfit – and not because she was wearing white.

“The most stunning MOB dress we have ever seen!!!!” wedding content creator Chloe LeBlanc captioned a recent Instagram video.

In the footage, the 53-year-old Louisiana mom walks down the aisle in a custom floral Audrey + Brooks gown with a plunging neckline and detachable bow and train. The bride, Amanda DeWitt Leblanc, 26, wears an off-the-shoulder trumpet gown by Romona Keveza. (It was one of three dresses she wore that night!)

“We didn’t know my dress would spark a debate, but we laugh about it,” Lori tells TODAY.com. “I’m the last person you’d expect to go viral. I don’t even post photos!”

Reactions to Lori’s look included:

  • “She’s trying to steal the show from her daughter.”

  • “If my mother doesn’t do this, she has to go home. I would be mad if she did less!!!”

  • “It’s not Mother’s Day!”

  • “You can do it, Mom! You look amazing! I can’t wait for my daughter to get married! I want to look just like you!!”

  • “Wow. Couldn’t she have let her daughter be the bigger deal that day?!!! If my mom had done that, I would have sent her back to change.”

  • “She obviously wanted to be the star!”

  • “I love this so much! I want my mom to feel so beautiful on my wedding day, you all are crazy.”

  • “Ridiculously low neckline. Beautiful fabric, trashy cut for a wedding. Period.”

Amanda and Lori purchased their dresses while shopping in New York City. Amanda was not only happy with Lori’s choice, she also called the floral dress “perfect.”

“I love what she wore,” Amanda, a podiatrist in Florida, tells TODAY.com. “My mom looked absolutely stunning.”

“It was her day as much as it was mine,” Amanda adds.

Amanda says her mother-in-law chose a pink, stately dress with striking flowers for the June 1 evening event at the Peter and Paul Hotel in New Orleans, where black tie was not required.

“We wanted our family members to shine,” says Amanda.

Lori, an interior designer who specializes in college dorms, says there is now a waiting list for her custom dress from Audrey + Brooks at Flora on Madison in New York City.

“Originally it was strapless – but I thought that would be inappropriate for a Catholic church, so they changed the neckline,” explains Lori.

“I think I’ll show up at my next daughter’s wedding in a burlap sack with ‘MOB’ written on it,” she jokes.

Although Lori takes the comments on Instagram with humor, she also finds them “a little heartbreaking.”

“I would never hurt my daughter,” says Lori. “Everyone just wanted to look their best.”
