In terms of spectacle, Noche UFC was everything it was promised to be.

The attendance was a whopping 16,024. Revenues totaled $22 million, making it the highest-grossing UFC event of all time and the highest revenue of any show at the Sphere.

While there weren’t many wins on Saturday night, we did see the crowning of two new champions and two epic battles.

In the main event, Merab Dvalishvili dethroned Sean O’Malley to become the new UFC bantamweight champion. Dvalishvili made it look easy en route to a unanimous decision victory.

O’Malley had no answer to Dvalishvili’s wrestling.

Dvalishvili scored six takedowns and secured more than 10 minutes of control time to win the favor of all three judges. O’Malley was unable to do much with his harder punches and lay like a rag doll for most of the fight.

Valentina Shevchenko regained her title in the co-main event with her dominant performance. Shevchenko defeated Grasso eight times with a control time of 16:04.

Grasso attempted to fend off Shevchenko with submission attempts, but Shevchenko evaded each attempt while maintaining his dominant top position.

Fans and some in the MMA community didn’t like the action – or lack thereof – but Shevchenko still reclaimed her place at the top of the women’s 125-pound title.

Noche UFC performances of the night

Ignacio Bahamondes was able to defeat Manuel Torres in the first round. Bahamondes’ straight right hand dropped Torres and set up ground and pound.

This win was one of two that night and earned Bahamondes a $50,000 performance bonus.

Ketlen Souza’s submission win over Yazmin Jauregui came in the first round and earned her the other performance bonus.

A brutal left hook dropped Jauregui and Souza quickly applied the rear-naked choke. Jauregui refused to give up and instead went unconscious.

Zellhuber vs. Ribovics – Fight of the Night

It was a shame that there had to be a loser in the fight between Zellhuber and Ribovics. The two fighters fought an exciting duel in which 277 significant blows were scored.

Ribovics won by split decision. Both fighters received $50,000 for their participation in the fight of the night.

From a cinematic perspective, Noche UFC was impressive. The big screen, the lighting and every aspect of Mexican culture in the arena came across spectacularly. It is to be hoped that the UFC will be able to organize more major events for special occasions in the future.
