A woman was flown out by helicopter following a collision between a car and a semi-trailer near Apple Valley on Tuesday morning, August 6, 2024.

According to the Apple Valley Fire Protection District, the incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. along State Route 18, about a mile east of Milpas Drive.

The crash involved a white Toyota Camry and a Double Eagle semi-truck. Initial reports indicate the woman in the sedan was traveling east while the semi-truck was traveling west.

For reasons still under investigation, the sedan veered into the westbound lanes and directly in front of the semi. The semi driver swerved and pulled onto the left dirt shoulder to avoid a near head-on collision, but the two vehicles still made contact.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and requested a rescue helicopter to fly the driver of the sedan to a trauma center. She was initially taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center and later flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for further treatment. It is unclear if the driver of the semi-truck was also injured.

No further details have been released and authorities are gathering all necessary information to determine the factors that led to the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
