It was just announced at Disney’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event that The Mandalorian and Grogu has begun production. The sequel to the story of Din Djarin and his adopted son Grogu was announced for 2023, with the announcement that the film would go into production sometime in 2024. The Mandalorian Creator Jon Favreau directs star Wars‘ first film since 2019 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

While details about The Mandalorian and Grogu were few and far between, Jon Favreau and Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni took the stage at the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23, where Screen Rant was present. In fact star Wars has found its rhythm releasing content on Disney+, but seeing them return to the big screen is a great next step for the franchise. With The Mandalorian Since it is already a popular title, transferring these characters to the big screen seems like a no-brainer. If The Mandalorian and Grogu is well received, it will give Lucasfilm the impetus to begin producing more films.

Lucasfilm has famously canceled numerous films in recent years, but it’s promising to see them taking the time to develop concepts that would be worthy of making an entire movie for them. The Mandalorian and Grogu will hopefully set a precedent for the star Wars Franchise.
