Tennessee Volunteers well ahead of Kent State at halftime

The Tennessee Volunteers and Kent State Golden Flashes have officially completed a half and the game has been one-sided since kickoff.

This is, of course, a good thing for your Tennessee Volunteers, who now lead the Golden Flashes 65-0, including nine offensive touchdowns and a defensive safety scored early in the first quarter of the game.

Nico Iamaleava’s day ends with a stat line consisting of a single passing touchdown, a 53-yard play where he teamed up with Tulane transfer Chris Brazzell for the first time this season, as Brazzell caught the ball on a go route and raced past the defensive backs on the right side of the field. Iamaleava finished the pass with 173 yards.

He was quickly substituted in the second quarter with just over five minutes left for Gaston Moore. Moore would cap that Vols drive with a touchdown pass to Miles Kitseman, the tight end transfer from Alabama.

The quarterbacks didn’t have to do much work in the first half as the running attack did a lot of damage. Sampson scored four touchdowns on 13 carries and 101 yards and DeSean Bishop had seven carries for two touchdowns and 120 yards.

Moore had two drives before halftime that used Khalifa Keith in the backfield instead of Cameron Seldon, who was released before the game. The drive included many first downs, including a rushing first down for Moore and Keith. The Vols got into the red zone looking for 60+ and they got it when Mike Matthews scored his first career TD.

The defense also allowed only three first downs, and none of them came from the third-down marker.
