Tyson Foods and Walmart grab locations on Razorback football field

There’s good news for Hog fans in Arkansas who aren’t familiar with two of the state’s largest publicly traded companies. The logos of Bentonville-based Walmart and Springdale-based Tyson Foods will be on the football field Saturday at the Razorbacks’ third game of the year.

According to the University of Arkansas Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the “groundbreaking sponsorship extension” with Tyson Foods and Walmart will include the company logos on each of the 25-yard lines of Frank Broyles Field at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium beginning Sept. 14 during the game against the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

“The expanded partnerships make Arkansas one of the first college athletic programs to display logos on the field during home games. The agreement underscores Arkansas’ long-standing partnerships with Walmart and Tyson Foods and provides them with an exciting platform to engage Razorback fans,” the UA press release said.

According to the UA, the sponsorship extension will provide the two companies with “extensive visibility through on-field placement of their logos,” as well as television coverage and “presence on social media platforms.” The sponsorship also provides Tyson Foods and Walmart with what the university describes as “exclusive sponsorship activations, events, promotions and content collaborations with student-athletes.”

“Walmart is proud to be a long-time supporter of our hometown teams at the University of Arkansas and programs that provide students the opportunity to compete at the highest academic, business and athletic levels,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said in the statement.

“At Tyson Foods, we are deeply committed to supporting students, student-athletes, college sports and our local communities. By investing in higher education and athletic programs, we aim to foster growth and talent to ensure a better future for the next generation,” John Tyson, chairman of Tyson Foods, said in the statement.

The Razorbacks enter their first game of the year in Fayetteville on Saturday with a 1-1 record.

Talk Business & Politics asked the UA about the amount of the sponsorship in connection with the logo placement.
