South Carolina’s interception pick-6 canceled after Kyle Kennard penalty late in the 4th quarter of the LSU loss

South Carolina football defensive lineman Kyle Kennard made a devastating mistake late in the fourth quarter against LSU on Saturday.

Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw an intercepted pass near the goal line to defensive back Nick Emmanwori, who returned the pass for what appeared to be a Gamecocks touchdown that would have given them a 39-29 lead before the extra point attempt.

However, on the return, Kennard was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after hitting Nussmeier, and the return was denied. However, the turnover stood and South Carolina got the ball at their own 10-yard line.

South Carolina eventually lost 36-33, with Alex Herrera narrowly scoring a field goal at the end of regulation time to give the Tigers the win.

Kennard has been one of the Gamecocks’ best players this season, with 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in two games prior to the LSU matchup. The Georgia Tech freshman also had 1.5 sacks in nearly four quarters against the Tigers.
