Reactions from Mizzou Football: Concerned but confident

The biggest game of Mizzou’s young season is less than 24 hours away, and Mizzou fans are… confident! Imagine that!

No. 6 Mizzou faces No. 24 Boston College tomorrow morning for the first test of the Tigers’ strength. The Eagles have been one of the surprises of the season and they are no doubt hungry to prove that their win over Florida State in week one was the rule and not the exception.

But despite all the hype surrounding Bill O’Brien’s team in Columbia, fans are pretty confident that Mizzou can get it done. We asked you earlier this week to rate your own confidence, and here’s how you responded.

That’s a whopping 90 percent of fans saying they are confident in some way. Only 9 percent of you are nervous! Mizzou fans: Rebuilt differently (after a successful season)!

We also asked you to rate your own concerns about Brady Cook’s performance early in the season. Cook has been a reliable and efficient manager of Mizzou’s offense, but hasn’t yet reached the level we’ve seen from him in 2023. Especially the long ball. God, I’d kill for a long ball.

Nathan Hurst argued this week that fans shouldn’t be worried about Cook’s performance so far, but even so, one is starting to become a little skeptical.

Personally, I fall into the “need to see more” category. Barring an injury, I don’t think Brady Cook will regress much, if at all, from his 2023 form. However, I want to reserve judgment before proclaiming with full conviction that his game has reached a new level. Cook is one of the best game managers the Tigers have ever had, but he’s still waiting to enter the hallowed league of quarterbacks like Brad Smith and Chase Daniel.

Can he do it? He has the attitude. But we’ll see if he can deliver the numbers.
