FSU Football vs. Memphis Tigers: Pre-game injury updates

Kickoff for Florida State’s second home game approaches as the Seminoles prepare to face an opponent head coach Mike Norvell is very familiar with. Five years after Norvell took the helm in Tallahassee, he gets the chance to coach against the team he led for nearly half a decade: Memphis. In his place, head coach Ryan Silverfield has continued to keep the Tigers on the right track.

Doak Campbell Stadium is sold out once again and fans are hoping for a better performance than the last time they played at Bobby Bowden Field. The Seminoles had a nine-game winning streak snapped in Tallahassee on Labor Day and have no choice but to catch up against Memphis if they want to have any hope of finishing the season.

The Tigers are 2-0 and have a four-year starting quarterback in All-Conference selection Seth Henigan. The offense is explosive and the defense is difficult to figure out with its unique 3-3-5 scheme not often seen in college football. Plus, Memphis has a roster full of veterans and experience, as evidenced by every starter on their two lines being a senior or junior.

Before the game, Florida State already announced that redshirt senior offensive tackle Jeremiah Byers, redshirt junior safety Shyheim Brown, redshirt sophomore linebacker Omar Graham Jr. and redshirt sophomore linebacker Shawn Murphy will miss the game. This will be Murphy’s third consecutive game he has missed, while Graham Jr. and Byers will miss their second consecutive game. Brown was a late addition to the list, and there was no mention of him battling an injury during the week.

It’s worth noting that there are a few players on Florida State’s roster dealing with known ailments. Sophomore wide receiver Destyn Hill has already been ruled out for the year after suffering an injury in the spring, while freshman defensive back Jamari Howard is recovering from an injury that could linger into the season. The Seminoles recently ruled out junior running back and standout specialist Jaylin Lucas for the remainder of the season.

Additionally, offensive tackle Robert Scott, defensive tackle Joshua Farmer and tight end Jerrale Powers missed most of the spring due to various issues. Additionally, Norvell has brought in linebacker DJ Lundy, tight end Landen Thomas and offensive lineman Bryson Estes as players who were limited at various points in the preseason.

NoleGameday will keep an eye on Florida State before the game to see who is available. Follow updates below before the Seminoles face the Tigers.

— Running back Sutton Smith, safety Kourtlan Marsh and linebacker Javante Mackey are out for the rest of the season for the Tigers.

— DJ Uiagalelei is wearing a sock on his right leg for the third time in a row. It’s hard to say whether he’s wearing the same knee-length pants underneath the sock that he wears during training.

— Hykeem Williams warms up ahead of his expected season debut. He’s moving well before the game and is coming off a solid week of practice.

— True freshman defensive back Jamari Howard is in civilian clothes. He will miss a third straight game.

— First-year wide receiver Camdon Frier, in civilian clothes, wears a brace on his upper left leg and uses two crutches to get around before the game.
