NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University football brings Virginia Tech to Norfolk for the third time when the Monarchs and Hokies face off on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Chip Tarkenton and Andy Mashaw on the phone, while Ted Alexander and James Witham will provide commentary on the action on ESPN Radio 94.1.

• ODU won the last two meetings, 49-35 in 2018 and 20-17 in 2022. The home team has won all five games in the series. Virginia Tech leads the series 3-2.

• ODU lost its second straight game by one point to open the season, 20-14 to East Carolina. Jahron Manning intercepted two passes as ODU faced ECU four times, setting a school record for a single game. Patrick Smith-Young and Will Jones also intercepted passes.

• For ODU, 14 of the last 16 games were decided by one point.

• Virginia Tech defeated Marshall 31-14 last week in Blacksburg.

• Linebackers Koa Naotala and Mario Thompson had double-digit tackles against ECU, as did safety Jahron Manning. Naotala had 18 tackles, the most of the game and a career-best, while Thompson had 12 stops and Manning had 10 tackles, a career-best.

• Patrick Smith-Young and Will Jones also had interceptions for the Monarchs.

TD series continues
With his 44-yard touchdown pass to Kelby Williams. Grant Wilson has thrown at least one touchdown pass in nine straight games, starting the streak with last year’s Week 7 win over App State.

Wilson completed 20 of 34 passes for 192 yards, one touchdown and one interception against East Carolina.

Numerous interceptions
ODU set a single-game record last week against East Carolina with four interceptions. Three games in the first half. Jahron Manning had two, one in the second and fourth quarters, while Patrick Smith-Young and Will Jones each had one.

ODU last had four interceptions in a game in its 2022 win over Virginia Tech.

Jahron for Two
Jahron Manning recorded his first two interceptions as a Monarch against ECU, becoming the first ODU player since Christian Byrum in 2014 to record two interceptions in a game.

Tough race
Aaron Young had 25 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown against ECU. 55 of his 83 yards came in the second half. The 25 carries for 83 yards were a career high. His previous highs were 13 carries for 67 yards.

Vines and Alston
Diante Vines and Myles Alston each reached or tied their career highs for the second week in a row.

Vines caught six passes for 64 yards and Alston caught five passes for 38 yards.

Vines set his personal record with four catches last week before catching six balls this week.

Alston had not caught a single ball before his five pass catches last week at South Carolina and ECU.

Culbreath and Drummer
Jahleel Culbreath started his second consecutive game and totaled six tackles, while Ja’Mez Drummer recorded a career-high six tackles against East Carolina.

Great Game Knight
A week after blocking a punt, safety Markus Knight intercepted a pass that Jahron Manning picked off for ODU’s first touchdown against East Carolina.

Knight continues to make big plays for ODU. Last season he had two interceptions (a team-high) and blocked a kick. This season he already has a blocked punt and a pass breakup.

Great game, Williams
Kelby Williams’ 44-yard touchdown was the third touchdown catch of his career and his longest touchdown of his career. All three touchdowns were over 30 yards. Last year, he had a 37-yard touchdown catch in week two against Louisiana and a 30-yard touchdown against Coastal Carolina.

Old Dominion has a bye week of September 21 before traveling to Bowling Green for its first ever meeting with the Falcons.
