Aaron Judge sent Yankees crowd and teammates into ecstasy with decisive Grand Slam

Yankee Stadium was in chaos after New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, who entered the game with the longest home run drought of his career, hit a grand slam to give his club a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.

Facing Red Sox relief pitcher Zack Kelly in the bottom half of the seventh inning, Judge threw the first two pitches as balls before slamming the next pitch, a 95-mph fastball down the middle, into the water.

As the baseball flew toward the left field seats and finally landed at its final destination, Yankees fans in the stands jumped up and down in joy while Yankees players excitedly high-fived each other and celebrated in the team dugout.

Afterwards, the crowd at Yankee Stadium urged Judge to open the curtain, and the Yankees captain complied.

After the game, Judge praised the crowd and said there was a “playoff atmosphere.”

“Yeah, tonight was awesome,” Judge said. “Especially after the seventh inning. One hit after another. Dugie (Alex Verdugo) got us started, quickly fell behind 0-2 and fought back to get on base.”

“In the seventh inning, it kind of felt like a playoff atmosphere, we kind of got ourselves together, so we waited for it.”

When told that his crowd-pleasing grand slam ended a 16-game home run drought, Judge grimaced briefly before admitting he hadn’t realized the streak was that long.

“Was it 16 games?” Judge asked. “I didn’t really know. It’s just another day. I really don’t focus on hitting home runs. I don’t focus on any of that. I have a job to do. Sixteen games, is that a lot or not? I don’t know.”

When Judge learned that this was the longest streak of his career, he joked that he would “definitely break” that record at some point in his career. Judge was all smiles during his press conference, and it’s not hard to see why.

The Yankees have won three games in a row, two of them walk-off victories, and now have a three-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East and a two-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians, the best record in the American League.

New York hosts Boston for two more games on Saturday and Sunday before embarking on a seven-game road trip to Seattle and Oakland.
