Premier League confirms 25-man squad
Friday, 13 September 2024 21:32

The Premier League has confirmed Town’s 25-man squad following the closure of the summer transfer window.

The Blues’ 25-man squad contains no surprises, as the number of senior players was reduced to that number following the final day loan moves of George Edmundson to Middlesbrough and Marcus Harness to Derby, and the termination of Freddie Ladapo’s contract by mutual consent, with the striker subsequently moving to Huddersfield.

Each Premier League squad – they can all be found here – contains no more than 17 players who do not meet the homegrown player criteria.

A Homegrown Player is defined by the Premier League as a player who, regardless of nationality or age, has been continuously or without interruption registered with a club affiliated to the FA or the Welsh FA for a period of three full seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday or the end of the season in which he turned 21.

The Premier League has also released a list of all 20 club players under the age of 21. In Town’s case, that’s 55, including Omari Hutchinson and Liam Delap, as well as members of the U21 and U18 teams.

The new signings also include Tudor Mendel-Idowu and a surprise name: 16-year-old Shakil Nicolaou.

We’ve learned that the left winger was on trial earlier this summer after playing in Tottenham’s academy. He won one cap at U15 level as a schoolboy and is also eligible for the Cyprus international team.

For the 2024/25 Premier League season, U21 players born on or after 1 January 2003 are eligible.

It would be interesting to see how other clubs compare to our 23 out of 25 “homegrown” players.

Both groups are arranged alphabetically.

I can’t see the last name Hutchinson. Should we be worried?
Who would have thought back then that he had a two-letter last name?

Yes, I thought so too. It turns out his last name is Giraud-Hutchinson.

8 A’s in your name are damn impressive…

I count 10 A’s, including the two capital letters…

First confirmation of Tudor Mendel-Idowu by the club?
