Michaela DePrince, ballerina from “DWTS”, dies at 29

Professional dancer Michaela DePrince, who captured hearts around the world, has died at the age of 29.

The groundbreaking ballerina was seen in the 2021 film “Coppelia.” According to NBC10 Philadelphia, she also appeared on “Dancing With the Stars,” in AT&T’s 2012 Spotlight appearance, and in Beyonce’s Emmy-nominated 2016 musical film “Lemonade.”

An orphan who escaped violence during her traumatic childhood, DePrince became a public figure in the world of dance and a humanitarian.

Her shocking death was announced on Friday, September 13, via her Instagram account; however, the cause of death was not disclosed.

“Rest in peace: ballerina Michaela Mabinty DePrince,” began her team’s caption.

“It is with pain in our hearts that we share the loss of star ballerina Michaela Mabinty DePrince, whose art touched countless hearts and whose spirit left many inspired and indelible marks on the world of ballet and beyond,” the announcement said.

“Her life was marked by grace, determination and strength. Her unwavering commitment to her art, her humanitarian efforts and her courage to overcome unimaginable challenges will forever inspire us.”

They wrote that DePrince “was a beacon of hope for many, showing that no matter the obstacles, beauty and greatness can emerge from even the darkest places.”

“Although her time with us was far too short, her genius and legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were touched by her story for generations to come,” the statement continued. “Love and prayers go out to her adopted family, friends and those who loved her.”
