Bundesliga: Adeyemi scores twice – Dortmund wins against Heidenheim

Status: 13.09.2024 22:39

As league leaders and without conceding a goal, 1. FC Heidenheim traveled to Dortmund on Friday evening (September 13, 2024) in the Bundesliga. Now both statistics are no longer up to date. Man of the match was Karim Adeyemi, who was involved in three Dortmund goals.

Adeyemi first set up Donyell Malen’s opening goal for BVB (12′). He then scored twice himself (17′, 41′). In the end, Dortmund still had to tremble.

Marvin Pieringer scored for Heidenheim in the first half (39th minute), and Maximlian Breuning was successful in the second. He converted a penalty (74th minute). Emre Can made the decisive goal, converting a penalty to make the final score 4:2 (3:1) (90th+3).

Friday night games In their own stadium, such a Dortmund thing

In the end, Dortmund’s victory was not undeserved, and it was not a surprise either. After all, the game in Dortmund took place on a Friday evening – and Friday night games in their own stadium are such a BVB thing. The club has not lost a Friday night game in their own stadium for 36 Bundesliga games and over 20 years. The last home defeat on a Friday was in January 2004.

First Adeyemi sets up, then he scores himself – BVB two goals ahead early on

Borussia Dortmund also got off to a better start in this game. Coach Nuri Sahin’s team had the first good opportunity in the 6th minute, but Pascal’s shot was just centimeters away.

Ten minutes later, BVB took the lead after Adeyemi moved into the center from the left, but instead of shooting himself, he crossed. That was a good decision. Adeyemi served Malen, who turned once and then shot. And he shot through the legs of a Heidenheim player. Goalkeeper Kevin Müller got a foot on the ball, but he couldn’t prevent the goal.

The second goal for Dortmund came just five minutes later when Julian Ryerson intercepted a pass and then picked up the pace. The ball went via Malen and Julian Brandt to Adeyemi, who this time scored himself. He hit the far corner with his right foot.

Cross Traore, header Pieringer – Heidenheim shortens

However, there followed a phase in which Dortmund were the superior team in terms of football, but they were no longer as determined to exploit their superiority as before. It was during this phase that Heidenheim scored the next goal. Omar Traoré crossed from the right into the penalty area, where Pieringer broke away behind Waldemar Anton. Pieringer’s header from six or seven meters was unstoppable for Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Ryerson to Adeyemi – 3:1 for BVB

Just two minutes later, Borussia Dortmund scored their third goal. It started with Ryerson, who ran past Leonardo Scienza and then crossed the ball flat into the penalty area. There, Serhou Guirassy took a step towards the ball – and then let it through. Adeyemi was standing behind him. He finished with a low shot against the direction of goalkeeper Müller.

First VAR trouble at BVB – and then Heidenheim scores

In the 66th minute, BVB’s goal anthem rang out in the stadium once again, which would probably have already decided the game. Goal scorer Marcel Sabitzer celebrated, but he didn’t celebrate for long. Then referee Robert Schröder blew his whistle. He had previously seen Groß handball. The VAR checked the scene – and revealed no objections. In Dortmund, they were not happy.

Eight minutes later, a goal was scored, but this time it was only Heidenheim who were happy. Niklas Süle fouled Mikkel Kaufmann – and Breuning safely converted the penalty.

Can provide the final point

As a result, BVB had to wait until injury time. Then Heidenheim’s Traoré touched the ball with his hand in the penalty area – this scene had been brought to the attention of referee Schröder by the VAR. Schröder looked at the images on the video screen again and decided to award a penalty. Can stepped up and shot into the middle. This is how he made the decision.
