It was yet another concussion suffered by Tagovailoa on national television that gave players and fans alike pause for thought, with players like former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, Super Bowl champion kicker Lawrence Tynes and Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe wondering if Tagovailoa should think about his future.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was asked after his team’s loss to the Buffalo Bills if he thought it was safe for Tagovailoa to play football.

“I think from a medical standpoint, I don’t go into things where I’m far inferior in expertise. I’m just there to support my teammates, like I said,” McDaniel told reporters. “I think it’s not appropriate for me to predict things that I don’t know in my non-specialized area.”

“I think we’ll get more information tomorrow on where Tua is. He’ll be able to be evaluated for quite a while, then we’ll have conversations and move forward accordingly. Like the rest of his teammates, he was walking around the locker room with them and establishing rapport with them as a leader, trying to keep the guys happy. He’ll be in the office tomorrow to get the appropriate care.”

Tagovailoa appeared to have suffered a concussion in the previous 2022 home game against the Bills, but it was determined that he sustained a back injury that caused him to stumble after clearly hitting his head on the ground during a play.

Just days later, in Week 4 against the Bengals, Tagovailoa was thrown to the turf at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, and a disturbing scene ensued as he posed with his hands, an incident that sometimes occurs with head injuries that cause the fingers to curl.
