Northern Lights: Stargazers share stunning images of the Aurora Borealis | UK News

Stargazers have shared stunning images of the Northern Lights, which were visible in parts of the UK on Thursday evening.

The Lights, also known as Northern Lightscould be seen until the early hours of Friday morning.

Below are some of the best pictures:

Northern lights occur when charged particles collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere near the magnetic poles.

When they collide, light of different wavelengths is emitted, creating spectacular plays of color.

The Met Office says there will be another chance to see the lights overnight Friday into Saturday – although the current forecast says they will be dimmer.
