The “waving woman who never gave up hope”

Edna Cintron, remembered as “the waving woman who never gave up hope,” will be honored along with thousands of others on the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

In one haunting image, 46-year-old Cintron, who worked as an administrative assistant for Marsh & McLennan, can be seen standing on the 93rd floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower, desperately pleading for help.

She was near a large hole in the building into which Flight 11 had crashed, surrounded by flames and thick black smoke.

Many others in the towers tragically chose to jump as they tried to escape before the buildings collapsed.

At 10:28 a.m. the waving stopped as the North Tower collapsed completely, making Cintron one of the 2,996 victims of the day.

Her image will continue to be shared and remembered as a symbol of resilience.

In a video from 9/11 Revisited, Cintron’s husband William described the heartbreaking moments before her death.

The footage reportedly shows that he “tentatively identified her as the woman” who stood on the edge of the hole for twenty minutes hoping for rescue.

However, another man whose fiancée was also in the tower claimed that the woman was actually his fiancée, Karen Juday, according to details obtained by 911 Revisited.

Other footage shows two other people fighting for survival alongside Cintron. In the background, the emotional sounds of a woman talking on the phone and the wailing of sirens can be heard.

An obituary on Legacy.com praised Cintron’s “courage and strength.”

Her husband also told her about their personal struggles, recalling how they were homeless and how her unwavering support helped him fight alcoholism during their twelve-year marriage.
