Buffalo wins convincingly; Tua Tagovailoa leaves the game due to concussion

The Buffalo Bills won their Thursday night duel against the Miami Dolphins 31-10, a game in which Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in the third quarter.

Tagovailoa was attempting to convert a fourth-down attempt with Miami trailing by 21 points when he collided head-first with Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Tagovailoa’s teammates immediately called for trainers as he was on the ground. He walked away under his own power and was ejected.

Even before the injury, things weren’t going well for the Dolphins.

Buffalo took a 31-10 lead thanks to three interceptions by Tagovailoa. Running back James Cook scored three touchdowns for the Bills – two on the ground and one in the air. Quarterback Josh Allen had an easy night, completing 13 of 19 passes for 139 yards. Cook ran for 78 yards on 11 carries.

Attention now turns to Tagovailoa, who has a history of concussions. He suffered two during the Dolphins’ 2022 season and was suspected of having suffered another prior to both – a controversy that led to the NFL and NFL Players Association revising the league’s concussion protocol midseason.

The Bills improved their record to 2-0 with the win and will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.

Miami fell to 1-1 and will play Seattle on September 22nd.
