Sabrina Ionescu’s big night helps Liberty to its fifth consecutive win

ARLINGTON, Texas – Sabrina Ionescu scored 20 points, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton added 17 and the Liberty never trailed en route to their fifth straight victory, a 99-67 win over the Dallas Wings on Thursday night.

Ionescu made 8 of 18 shots, including four 3-pointers, and added six assists for the Liberty (31-6), who have the league’s best record and beat the Wings for the second time in three days.

Laney-Hamilton sank three 3-pointers and half of her 12 shots and grabbed six rebounds.

Breanna Stewart and Courtney Vandersloot both scored eleven points for the Liberty, while Leonie Fiebich contributed nine points as a substitute.

Arike Ogunbowale and Maddy Siegrist both scored 11 points to lead Dallas (9-28), which has lost six straight.

Ionescu made two 3-pointers and Laney-Hamilton sank one, giving the Liberty a 9-0 lead.

Jaelyn Brown scored from outside the three-point line to cut the deficit to 20-15 for Dallas, but Ionescu converted a 3-pointer and a reverse layup in the final 44 seconds to give Liberty a 25-15 lead after the first quarter.

Ionescu had 16 points and Laney-Hamilton had 12 as the Liberty built a 50-32 halftime lead. The Dallas bench – led by seven Brown players – scored 14 points in the first half.

Two minutes into the third quarter, Satou Sabally’s layup reduced the Wings’ deficit to 14 points.

Vandersloot and Ionescu responded with back-to-back layups and the Liberty maintained a comfortable 73-55 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Liberty beat the Wings 105-91 on Tuesday, becoming the second team alongside two-time defending champion Las Vegas to record 30 wins in 36 games.

The Aces did it last season when the league first played a 40-game regular season. The Liberty must win their final three games to match the Aces’ record of 34-6.
