Lead-based paint is mentioned in the construction stop notice for the Inlet View Tower apartment building in Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Nearly a month after a city inspector issued a stop-work order alleging a company’s improper handling of lead paint at the apartment complex owned by Attorney General Treg Taylor and his wife, Jodi Taylor, the paperwork still hangs on the door of the Inlet View Tower apartment building in downtown Anchorage.

In a July 12 notice from Inspector General Scott Campbell, all work on the Inlet View Tower was ordered to be halted completely. The company, JET PRO, did not have the required state license to perform the work involving waterjet cutting of lead paint on the east side of the nearly 70-year-old building.

Inlet View Tower resident Jonathan Wyrick said he first became aware of the problem when the building was being painted and contacted Campbell in the Community Development Services Department about his possible concerns about lead paint exposure.

“They were all very interested right away,” Wyrick said. “They said they wanted to know everything. They wanted to know the details of what was going on.”

“I’m very concerned about what can happen to lead in the long term,” Wyrick added.

Campbell confirmed to Alaska News Source’s investigative team that the stop-work order was posted shortly after Wyrick contacted him and said the case had been referred to the Environmental Protection Agency.

An EPA spokesman confirmed Friday that the city’s report had been received and agency staff were now considering next steps.

Alaska’s News Source contacted the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Alaska Occupational and Health (AKOSH) and the building management for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.

The Taylors are listed as Possession taken over of the former Anchorage hotel last year. Alaska’s News Source investigative team reached out for comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
