Host criticizes Jets’ Aaron Rodgers, who ‘can’t move’, for disrespectful fan comments

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo is not happy with how quarterback Aaron Rodgers handled the suffering New York Jets fans after the Week 1 loss.

During his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday, Rodgers said he wants his fans “to be along for the ride … if you want to jump off now, jump off, but don’t come back.”

Rodgers’ point was that there are 16 games left in the season and one game – albeit a 32-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, a team considered Super Bowl-worthy – won’t make all the difference. But to Russo, Rodgers showed disrespect to Jets fans who have endured 13 consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance.

“Aaron Rodgers was here for a cup of coffee,” Russo said on Wednesday First attempt. “He’s only been here for one game. … And now he wants to tell Jets fans what they can and can’t do to jump off the bandwagon? Aaron, calm down. The Jets haven’t won since 1969.”

In Rodgers’ first game back after missing all but four snaps last season with a torn Achilles tendon, Rodgers completed 13 of 21 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He was sacked once. All in all, it wasn’t a bad performance for a 40-year-old quarterback coming off a serious injury.

But Russo had different feelings about the four-time MVP.

“He can’t move,” Russo said. “He’s very nervous about his Achilles tendon. He’s going to be an easy target back there all year long.”

While Russo generally attacked the Jets for their lackluster performance – especially on defense, which allowed 401 yards to a 49ers team without running back Christian McCaffrey – Russo kept coming back to Rodgers.

“Then I have to listen to Rodgers tell me, ‘If you jump off the train, you’re not coming back.’ Aaron, you played one game. Go back to Green Bay.”

Rodgers has plenty of time — and a loose schedule over the next month — to prove Russo wrong. The Jets visit the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
