Dolphins’ Raheem Mostert out for TNF; Gametime call by De’Von Achane

MIAMI – Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert will not play in Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills, coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday, leaving the team without its best runner from last season.

Due to a chest injury, Mostert is estimated to have missed all of the Dolphins’ practices this week; the team did not practice on Monday and only conducted walk-on drills on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Running back De’Von Achane also missed practice on Monday and Tuesday due to an ankle injury, but returned to the practice field on Wednesday.

Regarding Achane’s availability for Thursday’s game, McDaniel said: “We’ll see.”

The Dolphins have officially listed Achane’s participation in the game as questionable. According to the team, he participated only in limited practice on Wednesday.

Both players sustained their injuries during the Dolphins’ 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. Mostert totaled 19 yards on eight touches, while Achane totaled 100 yards on 17 touches.

McDaniel said the short week has impacted his players’ workouts, as in a normal week the team usually waits until Thursday to practice in protective gear.

Achane rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns in two games against the Bills last season, but if he is unable to play, veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. and fourth-round rookie Jaylen Wright could man the Dolphins’ backfield against their division rivals.

Wright was inactive in Week 1, but Wilson led the team with 26 rushing yards on five carries.
