The U.S. men’s national basketball team will face France on Saturday in the gold medal game at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Team USA won against Serbia 95-91 in the semifinals on Thursday. France won against Germany 73-69 in the semifinals on Thursday.

Prediction USA vs France in the gold medal match at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris

Looking only at the final score, the US team’s 95-91 victory over Serbia in the semifinals was not very convincing.
What was impressive, however, was the way the U.S. overcame a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter and overwhelmed Serbia on both ends of the court. They will have to muster that energy for four quarters against a red-hot French team that has the home advantage.
Jrue Holiday is the perfect candidate to contain Isaia Cordinier on the perimeter, and the likes of Joel Embiid and Anthony Davis will finally put an end to France’s dominance down low. This game will be much closer than the spread, but I’m picking Team USA to win its fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal.

You can never underestimate Nikola Jokic. There’s a reason we’ve seen Jamal Murray the way he did up until this point, why Bogdan Bogdanovic had the audacity to shoot back Carmelo Anthony’s 3-point celebration, and why Serbia held the USA’s dominance in check for most of Thursday. The big guy uses his teammates as well as anyone.
But given the strong fight Serbia put up in the semifinals, the gold medal match is likely to be disappointing in comparison.
Victor Wembanyama used his size and awareness well, but he is not Jokic. Serbia held on for long periods because its supporting cast played incredibly well. It even held on until the last minute because its star center looked every bit the best player in the world.
Will France see a combination of both? The convincing play of its supporting cast, which contributed to the win against Canada, and a promising performance from Wembanyama?
Joel Embiid’s impact will be important, as will Anthony Edwards and perhaps Jayson Tatum. The USA must challenge France at the basket as often as possible.
But it is possible. There is an overwhelming feeling in the air that the real gold medal game was played on Thursday.
