Taylor Swift praises Travis Kelce’s “Fun and Magic” in her 2024 MTV VMAs win

The voices are there – Taylor Swift had the video of the year!

At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, the 34-year-old pop superstar will took home perhaps the most coveted Moon Person of the evening and the Video of the Year for “Fortnight” with Post Malone – leaving Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Eminem and SZA behind.

When Swift accepted the award at the UBS Arena, she thanked many people who worked on the music video – and her boyfriend Travis Kelce.

“Directing this video, putting it together and writing it was the most wonderful experience and that’s because of all the people I got to do it with – and that includes Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles who had amazing cameos, that includes my amazing cinematographer (and) Rodrigo Prieto who goes out of his way to work with female directors,” she began. “He’s a genius and I can’t believe I got to work with him and Ethan Tobman, my amazing production designer who I worked with on the Eras Tour.”

Swift continued, “Post Malone, who we all love so much. Things in that video seem very sad when you watch it, but it was actually the funniest video I’ve ever made, and something I’ll always remember is that when I finished a take and said ‘cut’ and we were done with that take, I would always hear someone cheering from across the studio where we were shooting it, and that one person was my friend Travis.”

“Everything that man touches turns into happiness, fun and magic,” she added of the 34-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end. “So I want to thank him for bringing that to our shoot because I’ll never forget that.”

Then she turned to the Swifties: “And the fans, I always try to find a way to thank you for making my life what it is, for making the Eras Tour what it has become, for The “Tortured Poets” section what it’s become. This is all thanks to you guys for doing this and voting for this award. So thank you to MTV for giving me this opportunity to thank the fans. So thank you for what you’ve done and the fact that this is a fan-voted award and you voted for it, I really appreciate it.”

Finally, Swift called on her fans to vote – shortly after endorsing Kamala Harris: “And if you’re over 18, please register to vote for something else that matters a lot – the upcoming presidential election.”

Rounded off by her nomination for Video of the Year, Department for Tortured Poets The singer topped the list that evening with 12 nominations.

In addition to her five other nominations, the 29-year-old Grande was also nominated for Video of the Year for one of her Forget it! Image: “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”.

Inspired by the plot of the 2004 film that inspired the album name, Don’t forget me!The music video, directed by Christian Breslaur, shows Grande undergoing a procedure that erases her memories of her ex-boyfriend (Evan Peters).

Eilish’s “LUNCH” was also up for election. The self-shot music video for the Hit me hard and soft The track features the 22-year-old singer dancing around and draws heavily on ’90s aesthetics and vibrant, primary-colored imagery.

Doja Cat was nominated for “Paint the Town Red”. Like the other songs by the 28-year-old singer and rapper scarlet Visuals, the video for the viral track, directed by: The Idolby Nina McNeely, features many demon-inspired characters and themes.

Fresh from the release of The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)Eminem was nominated for the award of the year for his nostalgic (and star-studded!) music video “Houdini.”

The rap icon’s multi-nominated visual, directed by Rich Lee, took inspiration from his early work and featured cameos from Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Shane Gillis and Pete Davidson.

SZA rounded out the nominees for Video of the Year with her visual “Snooze,” which she co-wrote with director Bradley J. Calder.

The dreamy, film-inspired video follows the 34-year-old singer through several relationships with friends played by Justin Bieber, Benny Blanco, Young Mazino and Woody McClain – as well as a robot.

The 2024 MTV VMAs will air live from the UBS Arena in New York on September 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
