The Best Looks of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards

(CNN) –– Music’s biggest names descended on New York City for the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), and when the ceremony was rescheduled for a day to coincide with the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, the wonders that unfolded at the red-hot affair were just minutes away in the evening.

The annual awards ceremony has had a reputation for extravagant style since the dress worn by Lady Gaga, the Novia dress used by Madonna to perform “Like a Virgin” at the first VMAs some 40 years ago.

Waiting for fashion observers to join in with their keen eyes, including host Megan Thee Stallion and nominees like Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny and BlackPink’s Lisa, who are among the performers staging the spectacle, it’s just that occasion.
