ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel invites anti-Trump guests for post-debate show

ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel hosted prominent Trump opponents Jane Fonda and George Conway as guests on Tuesday night, following his network’s hosted debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump.

“It was just a beating like I’ve never seen in a presidential debate or any debate at all,” said Conway, a lawyer and co-founder of the left-wing Lincoln Project, arguing that Harris soundly beat Trump in the ABC News presidential debate Tuesday night.

Kimmel said gloatingly that he thought Trump had lost, too.

Conway and Fonda are both vocal supporters of Harris’ campaign. Before President Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, Fonda campaigned directly for Biden at several events.

Both Conway and Fonda spoke about the presidential campaign in interviews with Kimmel.

“It was bad,” Conway, an outspoken critic of Trump, said of the former president’s performance at the debate. “She was perfect, absolutely perfect. Everything from the moment she walked on the stage and basically walked right up to him.”

Fonda sharply criticized Trump in her interview, saying he was bad on climate.

“We can’t afford to lose four more years to the climate crisis. The orange man stands for ‘drill, baby, drill’ and this is serious, folks. This is not rhetoric. It’s real. It’s happening,” Fonda said.

Kimmel is a staunch Democratic supporter who, like late-night hosts Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers, has often made his show a social hangout for leading Democrats. He and Colbert helped with lavish party fundraisers when Biden topped the ticket earlier this year.

Kimmel’s network faced criticism from conservatives on Tuesday night over the tone of the questions it asked Trump and Harris. Critics said it was biased in Harris’ favor. Hosts David Muir and Linsey Davis repeatedly fact-checked Trump’s statements in real time, but did not do so for Harris. But her supporters said that was because she was more truthful.

The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

A Trump spokesperson referred Fox News Digital to a campaign statement on his Truth Social account praising Trump’s “masterful performance in the debate and denouncing Kamala Harris’ abysmal record of failure that has harmed Americans over the past four years.”

Fox News’ Emma Colton contributed to this report.
