The MTV Video Music Awards are typically the most eccentric and wacky red carpets of the annual awards season, and this year’s ceremony is no exception. In her first-ever appearance at the show, Chappell Roan brought plenty of fun with her own spectacular outfit.
Arriving at New York’s UBS Arena tonight, the “Pink Pony Club” singer turned heads at her VMAs debut with her impersonation of a medieval warrior queen – a look that included a regal velvet robe, an armored manicure and even a sword.
Roan arrived upon a spread-out antique carpet, wearing a robe of pistachio green velvet with gold embroidery on the lining, collar, and ruffled sleeves.
She later removed the coat to reveal the rest of her outfit, which included a witchy merlot-and-white sheer dress with mid-length sleeves and a plunging neckline. Her accessories were equally contemporary, ranging from chainmail arm cuffs, an armored and pearl-embellished manicure, metallic armored legs, an amulet with a cross pendant, and a long sword.
This year, Roan has received four nominations in the categories of Best New Artist, PUSH: Performance of the Year for “Red Wine Supernova,” Best Trending Video for “HOT TO GO!” and Song Of Summer for “Good Luck, Babe!”.
The pop star will also make her first appearance on the VMAs stage. Other artists set to perform tonight include Megan Thee Stallion, Sabrina Carpenter, Karol G, Halsey, Eminem and Camila Cabello.

“We have a country song. We have a danceable song. We have one that’s really ’80s, and we have one that’s acoustic, and we have one that’s really organic, live band, ’70s vibe. It’s totally weird,” she said. “(The next single) has to have more bite, whether that means more pop or rock brutality or just bite in the lyrics. Everything I listen to – Joan Jett, Heart, Gaga – I want to feel like them. So I’m just going to be inspired by that feeling and how I can capture it.”
