Nashville police credit rock legend Jon Bon Jovi with coming to the aid of a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge on Tuesday night.

According to a statement posted Wednesday on the Nashville Metro Police Department’s X page, the musician helped her “get down from the edge above the Cumberland River and get to safety.”

“We all have to do our part to protect each other,” added Nashville Police Chief John Drake.

A spokesman for the Nashville Metro Police Department told CNN on Wednesday that the woman, whose name is not being released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

In a video of the incident released by the Nashville Metro Police Department on Wednesday, apparently captured by a security camera, Bon Jovi is seen walking across the bridge with a camera crew and noticing the woman clinging to the ledge overlooking the river.

Bon Jovi, accompanied by an unknown person, appears to speak to the woman in distress and eventually helps her to get to safety over the ledge. Shortly afterwards, the singer is seen hugging the woman.

CNN has contacted a Bon Jovi spokesperson for comment.

A source familiar with the situation told CNN on Wednesday that Bon Jovi was filming a music video on the public bridge when the incident occurred.

Thanks to his JBJ Soul Foundation, founded in 2006, Bon Jovi has experience and training in supporting people in times of crisis.

According to its website, the foundation works to “break the cycle of hunger, poverty and homelessness” through various programs and support for community-based organizations.
