Neither the Mets nor the Jays are looking to score in the first inning this season. The Mets have scored just 23% of the time in the first inning this season, while the Jays have scored just 26% of the time. Neither team has scored in the first inning in the last three games.

Left-hander David Peterson starts at home for the Mets. The Jays have struggled with left-handers all season, with a batting average of just .228 and an OPS of .659 (26th). Peterson has a first-inning ERA of just .53 this season and has allowed just one earned run in 17 innings pitched.

On the other hand, Chris Bassitt has been underwhelming in the first inning this season with a 5.46 ERA; however, he has been better on the road this season with a 3.68 ERA and should be able to keep the Mets at bay for an inning or two.

Reynaldo Lopez has been one of the best pitchers in MLB this season with an ERA of just 2.04. The Braves’ bullpen has the third-lowest ERA this season (3.21) and the Nationals have averaged 4.36 runs per game over the last two weeks of play and 3.80 runs per game at home during that span.

The Braves have also been sluggish over the past two weeks, averaging just 3.00 runs per game. MacKenzie Gore starts at home for the Nationals tonight and has an ERA of just 1.65 in three games he has started against the Braves this season.
