BBC presenter is ‘completely open’ after sudden exit while co-stars are devastated | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

BBC correspondent Kate Lamble announced she was leaving the corporation after more than a decade. The science and technology correspondent, who has worked at Newsnight for the past two years and covered the Grenfell disaster, said she had been made redundant.

The broadcaster said she wanted to be “completely open” after announcing that today (September 6) would be her last day.

She began: “Today is my last day at the BBC. To be completely frank, I am being made redundant

“Whether I’m running More Or Less during the pandemic or reporting on Grenfell and the climate, I’m extremely proud of the work I do

“Public broadcasting can be exciting and indispensable and I hope I can continue.”

When her devastated colleagues voiced their opinions, she was quickly inundated with messages of support.

BBC news correspondent Tom Symonds wrote: “Kate has shown a level of commitment to this hugely important story that I have never seen before. If you are doing sophisticated reporting on complex issues, you want her on your team. Trust me. Thank you, Kate, for everything you have done.”

Newsnight producer Maria Polachowska wrote: “Kate, it has been a privilege to work with you. Excellent journalism, commitment to public service journalism, dedication and compassion. I wish you all the best for the future and please stay in touch! More success to come.”

Author Charles Bunker commented: “WHAT! Kate, you are brilliant. Your podcasts on Grenfell were outstanding. By far one of the best factual programmes the BBC has ever made. You should certainly be very proud of this work. It was extraordinary. Your skills and talents will be sorely missed.”

Paul Maxin commented: “I’m very sorry to see this. You are a brilliant journalist. I cannot understand why the BBC, as a public service broadcaster, would do something like this. Any organisation would be lucky to have you. More or Less was brilliant.”

One social media user assured: “I wish you all the best Kate. Thank you for the excellent programs you have produced. Keep it up and keep it up. To you.”

“It’s very sad to hear this Kate and you should be extremely proud. I hope you find a good home for all your skills and integrity,” added another.

Kate previously worked at BBC Radio 4 and hosted the podcasts The Grenfell Tower Inquiry and More or Less.
